The pandemic has bred all kinds of interesting bedfellows in our lives. We have all been under an immense amount of pressure. The confinement can be, at times, unbearable.
And the fear and stress that goes along with this builds up a certain energy inside us that is not always healthy. Top it off with a contentious election and we are all ready to kick these unwelcome bedfellows to the curb. Or at least the opposite side of the room.
Recently my partner & I experienced an excellent example of the art of losing it. I had come in the door while he was meditating. He was trying to get his Zen on. And I was moving plants in the same room.
Needless to say, this did not end well for either of us. As we were ‘discussing’ the situation (mindfully, of course, *wink* *wink*)-I realized we were fighting a losing battle over boundaries.
I wanted him to clearly communicate his needs. He asked that I be a bit more mindful about his space. We decided (calmly, of course, lol) to both try to compromise a bit more in the end.
What struck me about this interaction was the explosive energy we both had trapped within us. The discussion, in and of itself, would not warrant such big reactions. My partner even mentioned I’m not sure why I’m reacting so fiercely to this.
The Wall Street Journal (https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-art-of-the-meltdown-11602015018) recently wrote an interesting piece on the pandemic meltdown. In it, the author described how a simple sneeze sent someone over the edge.
Have you had a pandemic meltdown friends? Or are you, like me, storing this energy inside like an atomic bomb?
A lovely suggestion from the article above was to go ahead and let it out before that shaken soda can explodes. Louise Hay, notable spiritual guru, was a huge advocate of screaming into pillows or in her car.
Energy, according to the first law of thermodynamics can neither be created nor destroyed. In other words, it has to go somewhere. Trust me, you will feel so much better if you choose where that somewhere is.
So go ahead and enjoy a mini pandemic breakdown once and awhile friends. Times are tough and there is a LOT of pent up energy out there. Let it flow, throw a pillow, scream for no reason or even cry. Then enjoy the cleansing solace that follows.
Lose it, just a little, then choose again. Your return to center will be so much more rewarding.
