Total Eclipse of the Heart

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.-Viktor Frankl

Have you ever seen an eclipse? One minute you are outside, rolling in a sunpatch like a kitty. The next-darkness. When it happens during the day it can be downright creepy. I mean the light is just gone from our lives. In an instant. There is a whole planet in the way you know.

But the darkness literally only lasts a few moments. The average eclipse only lasts a few minutes and, according to NASA, generally only covers a span 50 miles wide. Total darkness, a total eclipse, only comes around once in 100 years.

Like an eclipse, the things that worry us are transient. When the darkness of life rests upon us, it can feel overwhelming, never-ending in fact. But in truth- these are only small, short periods in the greater sunniness of our lives.

If we get lost in the darkness, talking about when it might visit again, wrapped up in the last time it visited us, it can be hard to see the light.

But when we can take a step back and remind ourselves of all of our sunny days. Of the abundance of life in each of our ‘lit-up’ moments. And sometimes, it even allows us to enjoy a different perspective.

At the very least it can help remind us that sunnier days are coming. Are destined, and, in fact, predestined to find us. Even in our darkest moments.

Seek the light my friends. Yes, darkness can feel overwhelming. It can even keep us from seeing, blinding us to our next great path.

Keep faith in the sun, in the light that lives inside you. It is destined to shine.

And you are destined to shine for others. YOU are the reminder that life lives on. Now shine on lightchasers. Shine on!
